Uig Primary School is facing closure, depending on the result of a public consultation.

Members of the Highland Council's Care, Learning and Housing Committee have agreed to undertake the consultation on a proposal to formally close the school, which has been mothballed since the summer of 2010.

Under the proposal, children in the Uig area would attend Kilmuir Primary School, which is around 5 miles away.

The consultation will take place under procedures set down in The Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010.

The views of parents, school pupils, the local community and others will be sought over a period extending from 4 June to 30 August 2019. A public meeting will be held in Uig on 19 June.

The proposal paper and associated documentation will be available on the Highland Council website from 4 June at
